Overdue ILL -FAQ
Note: It is very important to return ILL materials on time. Failue to do so can affect our relationship with other libraries and hinders our ability to borrow materials from them in the future.
I think my ILL books are “overdue”, “late”, or “past the “date due”. What should I do?
Return your ILL book to the Check Out/ Check In desk. If it is past the date due, you will be charged fines from this library.
How much are library fines?
The U/CL charges 10¢ per day, and with few exceptions, 7 days a week. If your fine exceeds $20.00, we will assume the book is lost and you will be billed the replacement cost from the lending library and a processing fee.
Where do I pay my library fines?
Most fines under $20 can be paid at the Library. The U/CL does not accept credit, debit or check cards, or any bills higher than $20. No payments accepted one hour before closing. Obligations that have been posted to your college financial record must be made at the BC’s Cashier’s Office or online.
Damage to ILL Materials
The borrower is responsible for all items charged to the their card and is responsible for the safe return of all ILL materials. If an item is damaged, the card holder is responsible for all associated costs. Damage includes but is not limited to highlighting, writing, removing or losing the cover wrapper, stains, wetness, etc. The willful mutilation of ILL materials may result in severe disciplinary and/or legal action.
Renewal ILL - FAQ
How long can I keep ILL material?
Most ILL books borrowed from another library are checked out for 28 days. The length of the loan, however, is determined by the lending library. Photocopies (e.g., journal articles, book chapters) are yours to keep. FAU faculty and graduate students can request that the U/CL try to borrow the material from FAU Boca campus and request that the material be checked out for the academic term. If FAU Boca does not have the material requested, the ILL request will be made from the first library that indicates it has the materials available and the loan period will be determined by that library.
Can ILL materials be renewed?
Many libraries will renew books and microfilm for one additional loan period, which is anywhere from 14 to 28 days. The request for renewal must be made no later than 2 days before the book is due back to this library. If you need to renew your loan, call ILL Monday to Friday between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. It is up to the lending library as to whether we can renew the book.
My ILL book was due yesterday. Can I still ask for a renewal?
Call ILL Monday to Friday between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Usually we cannot request a renewal if the book is overdue, but we can try.
Can I renew my ILL books online in My Account?
No. ILL must contact the lending library to get permission to renew the book.
Lost ILL - FAQ
I've lost the cover wrapper on my ILL book. Does that matter?
Yes. Please do not remove the cover wrapper. If you do lose it, bring the book to the Check Out/Check In Desk at the U/CL and ask to speak to an ILL staff person. Do not drop the book in the book return.
What if I lose an ILL book?
To protect our relationship with the lending library, let us know as soon as you realize that you have lost the book. The lending library sets the replacement cost. If you notify us after the date due, you may also owe fines also. Your library account will be blocked and the financial obligation will be placed on your college record until the cost is paid.
I lost my ILL book and paid for it. Now I have found it. Can I get a refund?
Contact ILL and we will contact the library that lent the book to see if they will issue a refund. There is no refund on the billing fee and late fines.
How do I pay for my lost book?
Obligations that have been posted to your college financial record must be made at the BC’s Cashier’s Office or online.
